    What is HAVS?

HAVS – Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome – is a very serious injury that is caused by using hand held power tools over a long period of time, usually ten years or more. It is a debilitating condition that is caused by damaged blood vessels, normally in the hands.  HAVS can leave you with a serious loss of hand functions, such as lack of grip and fine motor control, as well as being very painful particularly in cold weather.

I am suffering from HAVS – are there HAVS claims for compensation?

HAVS, or vibration white finger, is an injury that is suffered by approximately 1 in 10 people who work with power tools for a large part of their working day over a period of years. Your employer has a duty to look after your health and safety while you work. If your employer has failed to carry out their statutory duty, then you may be eligible to claim for compensation.

If you work in the kind of job where you are at risk of suffering from HAVS, your employer has a duty to make sure that they:

    • Make all efforts to reduce vibration and the impact of vibration
    • Provide you with information and training about your equipment, how to use it correctly and the risks of not using it correctly
    • Monitor your health and your use of high risk vibration equipment.

    Are HAVS claims common?

While HAVS claims are thankfully not common, they are frequent enough for us to have good experience of dealing with them an obtaining successful compensation awards. We can match you to a solicitor who has experience in dealing with HAVS claims and can offer you the expertise that you need.

How much are HAVS claims usually worth?

HAVS claims can be substantial, but the value of HAVS claims depends on:

    Open Claim Calculator

    • How severe the syndrome is – it can range from mild to debilitating
    • Whether HAVS stops you from working
    • How it impacts on your life
    • Any other losses or costs you have incurred as a direct result of your HAVS

So how do I make a claim?

Give us a call on our 24 hour helpline. We can talk about your case and give you free advice on your options. If you choose to take your case forward, we can make sure that you have free access to a no win no fee* solicitor who is appropriately experienced in dealing with your unique circumstances.

Is it difficult to go through the claim process?

We make your claim process as hassle free as possible, completing your entire case over the phone if we can, although the nature of HAVS means that you may need to attend a medical assessment. We will not ask you to fill out any paperwork and we will make everything as smooth as we can. You can rely on us to support and guide you at every step of your case, right through to you receiving your compensation.
