Hackney Accident Claim

Hackney, or to give it its full name the London Borough of Hackney, is a largely inner city borough of England’s capital found toward the north east of London. The borough shares borders with Islington to the west, Haringey to the north, Waltham Forest to the north-east, Tower Hamlets to the south-east and the City of London to the south-west.

The borough remains largely similar to its early inner-city self, but today does have some more upmarket gated communities mixed in with its more recognisable housing estates, and also features some larger Edwardian and Victorian housing in its south eastern corner.

The Formation Of The Borough

The London Borough of Hackney officially came into existence on the 1st April 1965 as a result of the 1963 Local Government Act which made many changes to the governmental set up of the capital and the Greater London urban area. In the case of Hackney, the new borough was created from a merger of the earlier metropolitan boroughs of Hackney, Shoreditch and Stoke Newington.

As a nod to the fact that the new borough was an amalgam of three previous areas, the new council’s coat of arms included symbols related to each of the three previous boroughs. These were three bells from Shoreditch Church, two trees bearing fruit to represent Stoke Newington and the Maltese Cross which had long been associated with Hackney’s historic coat of arms.

The Population Of Hackney

According to the most recently available census data, the borough of Hackney is home to approximately 250,000 residents. When you come to realise that the borough covers just 7.36 square miles, this demonstrates that Hackney is an extremely densely populated area.

This dense population makes the borough a busy, active and thriving one but does also make accidents and injuries comparatively common occurrences. It is that, as a result, which makes us turn our attention to the issues surrounding Hackney accident claim proceedings.
