About a fractured wrist
A fractured wrist is caused by twisting or impact to the wrist, and quite often happens when people are involved in a road traffic accident or some other sort of accident that creates a fall or nasty bang to the area.
Symptoms of a fractured wrist
If your fractured wrist is a clean break, you may hear a snap or crack as it happens, but if not then other common symptoms are:
- Soreness and tenderness;
- Severe pain; and
- Bleeding, if the fracture has damaged the skin or tissue surrounding it.
Treatment for a fractured wrist
This differs depending on how severe the injury is and the age of the patient — a child’s bones heal much quicker than those of an elderly person. Generally, treatment would include:
- An X-ray (complicated fractures may need an MRI, CT or bone scan);
- In the case of a minor fractures, a plaster cast to hold the bone ends together;
- In more severe cases, surgery to insert pins, rods, plates or screws;
- A sling to secure the arm to the chest; and
Where to go if your fractured wrist was the fault of someone else
Accident Advice Helpline is where you should go. We were established in 2000 to give access to justice for faultless victims of accidents and criminal assaults. In 1998, legal aid for personal injury compensation claims was abolished, so we operate on a no win no fee* basis — if we do not by any chance win your case, you will not have to pay us a penny.
For over 15 years, we have been helping blameless victims injured in all types of accidents to claim the compensation due to them. We have assisted numerous thousands of people, among them many with a fractured wrist, with their personal injury claims.
We are successful and thrive partly because of the ideals we adhere to — integrity, dependability, reliability and accountability — partly because of our in-house solicitors and their expertise, partly because of our trained friendly advisors there to assist you at all times, and simply because all these factors combine to ensure that we are the best.
Esther Rantzen thinks so, too — she recommends our services and knows that we will get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible, while getting the fairest deal for you. Esther, a well-known UK consumer champion, has been our patron since 2003, something she would not continue to do if she felt we are lacking in the services we provide.
On our website you can complete our 30-second test. This is designed to give you a rough estimate of the amount of compensation you may be awarded. Alternatively, you can phone our freephone number and speak to one of our advisors for assistance. The helpline number is 0800 689 0500 and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
