About a face injury claim
If someone tells you that they have a face injury, most people automatically assume that it is a disfigurement of some sort, but this is not always the case. It may be:
- Broken bones;
- Loss or damage to teeth; or
Any of the above would create a face injury claim for compensation. All the rules that apply to other personal injury compensation claims apply to a face injury claim as well. If the accident that caused your injury was the fault of someone else, you may be entitled to compensation.
Other effects of a face injury claim
As well as the physical affects of a face injury claim, because the results can be so apparent, often victims find their injures embarrassing — it can affect their social skills, sometimes leading to depression and anxiety. Females are usually more affected in this way than males, and generally receive higher compensation awards than men. The truth of the matter is that we live in a society that takes more notice of the way women look than the way men look. However, men who need their looks for their living, such as male models or actors, are likely to be awarded a similar amount to that of a woman.
A face injury claim is not free money
If you have had a personal injury of any sort, it can be life changing. The compensation is not free money given for no reason — it is awarded in recognition that you may have to alter your life totally to deal with those injuries, and that you may have extra expenses along the way. Some of the extra costs incurred relating to a face injury claim might be:
- Plastic surgery;
- Physiotherapy; and
- Hearing aids.
