Things to see and do in Ashton-under-Lyne
A part of Greater Manchester, the town of Ashton-under-Lyne has plenty to keep its visitors entertained.
Setantii – Tales of Tameside
Inside the Victorian town hall, this museum takes visitors on a historical tour of the area. Experience Roman battles, the industrial revolution and the World Wars as experienced by a Tameside resident. There is even a life-size air raid shelter to give the children an idea of how life was for their grandparents years ago, and what they had to live through.
Daisy Nook Country Park
In the Medlock Valley, between the three towns of Oldham, Failsworth and Ashton-under-Lyne, the steep-sided valley originally went by the name of “Water Houses.’ The name was changed after the publication of a book by a local author. The Victorians were the first to picnic here and take boat rides on the sinisterly-named Crime Lake. Popular with walkers, horse riders and fishermen, the canals no longer run through the valley, but the area is given over to the public for their enjoyment. There is even a garden centre with a cafe that sells refreshments.Open Claim Calculator
