    The first stage to claiming compensation if you’ve been injured while away from home, is establishing who is liable for an accident whilst on holiday.     Who was at fault?

    You can only claim compensation if someone else was responsible for causing your accident. Sometimes this is obvious and on occasion, the person responsible may admit liability. If you contributed to your accident, you may not be able to claim, or your compensation may be reduced.

    If you are on holiday and you are injured, always report your accident where it happened. If you tripped over loose carpeting in your hotel, or your balcony was loose, report it to them. They will have a book where all accidents are recorded.

    If it happened in a public place, other people will probably have witnessed what happened. If you ask, they are usually happy to provide their contact details in case you need a statement from someone about what happened

    The scene of an accident can often provide information about what happened so if you can, get some photographs. Your mobile phone will be fine for taking these.
