Local businesswoman injured at awards ceremony
Our Ebbw Vale accident claim solicitors at Accident Advice Helpline have recently helped a client win financial compensation after she was injured at a public event.
Mrs Chaplin was attending the annual Women in Business awards ceremony when she suffered her injury. She explained to our Ebbw Vale accident claim solicitors what happened:
“I was sitting at the table getting ready to have the first course of our meal when my chair just collapsed. I had no warning, it just gave way underneath me. Unfortunately as the soup had just been served I ended up pulling that down on top of me and was scalded in the process.”
Mrs Chaplin received burns to her hands and thighs as a result of the soup, and seriously injured her back. Months later she was still reporting pain and difficulty with lifting and bending.
“It was as a result of the ongoing problems with my back that I decided to make a claim for compensation against the event organisers.”
Our Ebbw Vale accident claim solicitors were instructed to secure compensation for Mrs Chaplin and one of the first things they had to do was establish who was liable for the accident. The event organisers denied liability as, although Mrs Chaplin had been attending their event at the time of the accident, they did not have any responsibility for the furniture or other items present at the venue. This was ultimately the responsibility of the venue’s owners.
Our Ebbw Vale accident claim solicitors were then able to make a claim against the venue directly for supplying faulty furniture in the dining room. Investigations showed that just the night before a heavily intoxicated gentleman had fallen off his chair. The chair itself was damaged as a result of the incident and should have been disposed of or fixed. Unfortunately due to poor procedures within the venue this had not been done, and ultimately Mrs Chaplin found herself sitting on this chair the following night.
As a result of our investigations the venue were found to be liable for the accident and instructed to pay Mrs Chaplin compensation.
Our Ebbw Vale accident claim solicitors were able to secure her compensation for not only the pain and suffering she experienced as a result of her injuries but also for the time she had to take off from work as a result.
“My back injury meant that I had trouble sitting for long periods. I had to take more time off from work than I would have wanted and as a business owner that had a huge impact on my profits. I had to take on a temporary member of staff which cost me greatly. All in all, it’s been a terrible experience and I am still picking up the pieces today.”
