Flying when pregnant, and when to use a Dundee City law firm to claim after an accident

Sometimes it is not advisable to fly when you are pregnant. Generally, doctors will not suggest that you fly in your final trimester, when you are heavily pregnant. In fact, many airlines can refuse to take you if you are heavily pregnant, because of the risks involved to both you and them due to your condition. If flying is not absolutely necessary during your pregnancy, you may choose not to fly at all, but if you do feel that you need to take a flight while you are pregnant, here is some advice which can help you.

  • Know when to stop travelling. You can safely fly up until the 35th week of your pregnancy. To be safe, and just in case of any delays in flights, try to make your return journey no later than your 34th week of pregnancy or earlier, so that you don’t have to fly after the 35th week.
  • Speak to your doctor. Before you fly, even if your pregnancy has gone as smoothly as it can until now, it is always worth speaking to your doctor in advance to make sure that it will be safe to travel in your case.
  • Speak to the airline. There are certain seats on the plane which are not suitable for expectant mothers. When you book your flight, explain to the airline that you are pregnant so that they can book you into a suitable seat, and also so that you can confirm whether or not they will be happy to take you (some airlines don’t accept heavily pregnant travellers).
  • You don’t need a medical certificate. If any airline asks you to provide a medical certificate, you can explain to them that this is not required by law up to the 35th week of pregnancy (or the 32nd week for those expecting twins).
