    Dog bite compensation

Any injury you suffer as a result of being attacked by a dog may entitle you to claim dog bite compensation from the dog’s owner. Successful claims for dog bite compensation are usually made when the injury was not the fault of the injured person, so the dog must have been unprovoked and have attacked you suddenly.

We also have a general page on animal injury that you may find helpful.

    Dog bite injury claims

If you’ve suffered a dog bite, what should you do?

First of all, you must see a doctor or a nurse, particularly if the bite has broken the skin. They will treat it so that it doesn’t become infected, and will dress it if necessary. You may also need an injection, and the doctor will look after that too. You should be able to reclaim any money you spend on medical treatment as part of your dog bite compensation claim.

If possible, you should try and get the contact details of the dog owner, as well as any information about the dog itself. It will also help us if you have managed to obtain the details of any witnesses to the attack, but if that wasn’t possible, then please don’t worry. What you might want to do is take a picture of your injury as soon after the attack as possible.

If you have sought medical advice, you may then want to begin proceedings with a view to claiming compensation for the pain and suffering you have been forced to endure. There is also any costs and losses caused by your injuries to consider when making your claim.

Over the years, we have helped our clients with thousands of claims every year, and are proud of our record in helping them maximise the accident compensation money due to them.

Our lawyers operate on a no-win, no-fee* basis, so you can be sure they’ll do whatever is best for you, and you will not need to pay us any money for the work to begin.

Call our helpline on 0800 689 0500 from a landline, or try our 30-second compensation calculator, which will give you a rough idea of how much you could claim. If you are using a mobile, you can with call 0333 500 0993 or text ‘claim365’ to 88010 and we will call you. You can also submit a full claim online now.
