Damages calculator

When you are thinking about filing a claim for personal injury compensation, you are usually curious about how much compensation you might receive. This figure is incalculable in advance, as each case is unique. However, a damages calculator has been designed using the amount of compensation people have received in the past, for certain types of injury. If you use a damages calculator, you should bear in mind that the figure you see is only an estimated one. No one can accurately tell you in advance how much you might receive in damages for an injury sustained in an accident that was not your fault.

Damages calculator on Accident Advice Helpline’s website

If you go to the Accident Advice Helpline website, you will find what we call the 30-second test, our damages calculator. It takes a few clicks of the mouse to answer the questions and then you get an estimated figure of how much compensation you might receive. We call it the 30-second test because that is how long it takes to give you an estimate of the amount you might receive in compensation.

Criteria for personal injury compensation claims

If you are considering filing a claim for damages for a personal injury or a fatality, then you need to keep these points in mind.

  • The accident in which you sustained your injury must have occurred through no fault of yours
  • The accident must have occurred within the last three years in the UK. Accidents on a ship, boat or plane are governed by International Conventions, in which case you must file a claim before two years has passed from the date of the accident
  • All accidents are different, as are the severity of injuries, from minor cuts and bruises to life-changing injuries. So you can only be given an estimate of how much compensation you might get if your claim was to be successful.
