    Compensation in Eastbourne

Every now and then people ask me what the difference is between those who get the most out of a claim and those who don’t. My answer is always the same: it’s the questions they ask and also the ones they don’t. So, if you’re looking to claim compensation in Eastbourne here are some of the things you should be asking any potential law firms you consider working with.

    1. Are you actually a law firm…

… and can I see your credentials? This may sound insulting but it’s an important thing to get right. There are plenty of firms out there which will look and feel like a law firm but are in fact anything but. It couldn’t be more important that you make sure you see their credentials before agreeing to work with them.

    2. How much do you charge?

It’s never too early to get down to the business of hard cash. Somewhere down the line you’re going to have to pay the fees so it’s important to know how much you’ll actually have to part with. A reputable firm should have no problem outlining their payment structure to you. Normally this will involve a percentage of any compensation settlement which should not be more than around 25%. Any more than that and it may be a good idea to start looking elsewhere.

    3. Have you done this kind of thing before?

We would never dream of setting someone up with a lawyer who wasn’t a specialist in the kind of accident they have suffered and neither will any reputable firm. You would hope they will declare clearly on their website or any sales literature what they can and can’t deal with, but you never know for sure.

For instance the process of making a claim for basic things such as whiplash after a car accident is very different than for someone who has suffered long term injuries, so it is important to make sure you have the right professionals on your side making the claims on your behalf.

    4. How much will I receive?

Don’t worry, you’re not asking us to tell the future. In fact it should be relatively easy to get an estimate of your compensation settlement. This allows you to set expectations early on and could prove useful later in the process.
