Very few of us haven’t been burnt in one way or another before. For most of us it’s a simple case of not paying enough attention when doing the ironing or perhaps getting a pot off the stove or out of the oven. Even these minor burns can be exceptionally painful at the time, but thankfully don’t take too long to heal and stop bothering us.
However, some people are not so lucky and if you have been involved in an accident which resulted in a burn or a scald you might want to make a compensation claim in Teddington.
More information about burns and scalds
Serious burns and scalds can lead to nerve and/or muscle damage, permanent scarring and/or disfigurement and in extreme cases even death. In these more serious cases you might want to find out about making a compensation claim in Teddington.
Burns are classified into three distinct categories:
- First Degree Burns – these are the most minor of the three categories and although there will be some pain associated with the burn, and perhaps some redness, they tend to heal pretty well on their own.
- Second Degree Burns – these tend to be more serious and painful than first degree burns as they affect deeper layers of skin. Affected areas tend to develop blisters which can cause infection if not treated properly. If the burn covers more than 10% of the body then the victim may well go into shock, which brings with it its own complications.
- Third Degree Burns – these are the most serious types of burns. Affected skin will be completely burned away and damage can be caused to nerves, muscles and ligaments. These take a very long time to heal and will result in permanent scarring and/or disfigurement and will usually require skin grafts if there is any chance of healing and recovery to be made.
If you have been injured as a result of a burn injury which was caused by someone else’s negligence then you will no doubt be entitled to make a compensation claim in Teddington.
Scalds are slightly different to burns in terms of how they are caused. Instead of relying on heat, fire, electricity, radiation or chemicals, scalds are caused by hot liquids and/or steam. These can also be exceptionally painful and require significant recovery and treatment.
