When we hear that someone has been involved in a road traffic accident or collision, we tend to immediately think of a car accident, usually used for personal use, and the victims being probably just the drivers (although in some cases, there are passengers involved).
However, these are not the only kinds of accident and collisions to occur on our roads. Although it is very rare, bus accidents can occur, and passengers on these buses can be injured and might want to make a compensation claim in Stone.
What you should do
If you have been involved in an accident on a bus or coach, it is important that you take down as much detail and information as possible, as early as practical. Information which might be useful to help make your compensation claim in Stone include:
- Time of the accident;
- Date of the accident;
- Place of the accident (including sketches if necessary and/or photographs);
- Route/bus number and company;
- Driver’s name;
- Registration number of the bus you were travelling; and
- Driver and registration details of any other vehicles involved if applicable.
Make sure that you report any injuries you have sustained to the driver of the bus as soon as it is practical to do so, and make sure that you keep your bus ticket as evidence that you were indeed on the bus at the time of the incident.
Making a compensation claim in Stone
When you are a passenger on a bus, it is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that you are kept safe at all times. This is his duty of care to you as a paying member of the public. If you are injured whilst on a bus, it could be that the driver has failed in this duty of care and is therefore liable for your injuries. Of course, it is not always the bus driver’s fault if they have been involved in an accident, as frequently other road users fail to allow buses enough time to manoeuvre and inadvertently cause accidents this way.
If you have been injured and want to make a compensation claim in Stone, you will need to seek medical attention as soon as possible to have your injuries documented on your medical records.
