    Compensation Claim in Redbourn

Do you need to make a compensation claim in Redbourn?

    We can help.

Redbourn is a small village situated in Hertfordshire, with close links to St Albans, Hemel Hempsted and the M1.  With a population of around 6000, Redbourn, which was winner of Hertfordshire Village of the year 2002, is able to offer its residents and visitors its own recreation center, local shops, public houses and churches alongside its common land and historical past.

The Saxon village of Redbourn has historical roots to William the Conqueror and was described in the Domesday Book 1086 as a parish. Little has changed since the Saxon times with a well established, thriving, agricultural community which played a role in the “Golden Age of Stage-coaching”.

In 1838 the railway was built and ran from London through St Albans to Birmingham which caused the demise of stage-coaching even though Redbourn had to wait until 1877 for its own branchline which sadly closed in 1979. However, Redbourn’s first bus service arrived in the village in 1908 though buses took some years to become a fully established service. In 1903 Mr Boucher, the local dentist, owned the first privately owned car in the village which would have been a sight for all local residents.

The first fatal motor accident in Redbourn was in 1908 and unfortunately accidents on the St Albans road still happen on a regular basis on the nearby M1. First mention of a Redbourn by-pass was in 1935 and when this was finally built in 1984 the village closed the High Street for the day to celebrate the occasion.

Rebourn is traditionally known for its farming roots and especially its growing of watercress. In addition Redbourn can boast a history in silk throwing which was carried out in the Woolhams Mill near the common until 1938.
