Claims for an injury received in an accident on the Church Village bypass will need Church Village no win no fee* lawyers

The village of Church Village is found in Wales and there has been three new bridges built specifically for dormice to cross a bypass without being in danger of getting hit by traffic. The bridges cost around 190,000 pounds and some have questioned the spending on the new bridges. Part of the cost of the bridges is due to the special wire mesh tubes that form the bridge between tall poles and trees in the area. The bridges travel over the bypass near Pontypridd in Rhondda Cynon Taf and form part of a larger plan to protect wildlife surrounding the road that stretches for over 4 miles.

Special bridges are needed for dormice as they don’t live on the ground and travel between trees so they cannot use the underpasses like other wildlife such as badgers and hedgehogs. In addition to the bridges, new ponds have been created for toads, worms and newts that live alongside the road.

This work is being completed in a collaboration between the Rhondda Cynon Taf council and private contractors, Costain, who put forward their plans for wildlife protection to the council before it was approved. Funding for the bypass has come from the Welsh Assembly Government and this funding took into account the costs of the dormice bridges.

In response to the concerns, The Countryside Council for Wales or CCW has said that the perceived special treatment of the dormice is a standard practice under EU rules. Also, the local council has said that the ecological work was a requirement for gaining permission to build the bypass from the Environment Agency and they fully supported the ecological work that was proposed. They also stated that the special bridges are common in Wales and are in accordance with legislation in place to protect the dormice and other protected species of wildlife.
