What is a cervical spine injury?
A cervical spine injury is an injury sustained within the first seven vertebrae of the spine in the neck region. Such injuries can occur unfortunately in a wide range of accidents — you may be injured in a road traffic accident as a driver, passenger or pedestrian; you may suffer an accident in work as a result of heavy lifting or being struck by a fallen object; you could have slipped, tripped or fallen in a public place; or you could have been injured as a result of a sporting accident, such as playing rugby or horse-riding.
No matter how your injury occurred, it is important never to underestimate the severity of a cervical spine injury. In one of the worst case scenarios, damage to this area of the body can result in quadriplegia (also known as tetraplegia), in other words total paralysis from the neck down. Inevitably, the results of this will be devastating — you will certainly require a great deal of nursing care; your home will need adjustments for you to cope; and you will suffer a loss of earnings and other employment benefits. It’s therefore absolutely vital, if you think your accident was caused by another party’s negligence, carelessness or criminal act, that you seek specialist legal help when making a claim.
As a specialist personal injury law firm, Accident Advice Helpline have a vast amount of experience in making claims on behalf of accident victims suffering from cervical spine injuries. We can help by putting together a strong case to demonstrate that another party was at fault for your accident — it may be that your employer ignored their statutory duty of care by not training you adequately in aspects of heavy lifting; an individual driver may be responsible by causing the road traffic accident which resulted in your injury; or a company or local government body may be at fault for allowing hazards such as faulty pavements or walkways which caused you to slip, trip or fall.
