    Car Accident Claims in Buckhaven

Anyone looking to raise car accident claims in Buckhaven for whiplash injuries they have sustained, will need to be certain of their facts. Although the mammoth rise in the number of whiplash injury claims being filed is still on the rise, that rise is substantially less so far this year than it was last year. A leading insurance company have reported an increase of 21% this year as opposed to 51% last year.

    The “cash for crash” scam

The vast majority of these whiplash injury claims are thought to be bogus. It’s all part of the so-called “cash for crash” scam. Most of these claims are being raised by organised gangs. This particular insurance company have set aside 6,500 claims they’ve received for whiplash injury as being potentially suspicious. Over half of this number has been raised by criminal rings. The favourite MO (Modus Operandi) for this scam is whereby a criminal driving a car makes a fraudulent emergency braking manoeuvre, forcing the car behind to crash into their rear. They then launch a false whiplash injury claim against the unwitting victim’s insurance.

The cost of the fraudulent whiplash claims

The huge number of bogus whiplash injury claims being registered has led to the UK being branded as the “Whiplash Injury Capital of Europe.” It’s also led to  approximately £90 being added to the cost of car insurance premiums.

New legislative measures put in place

New legislative measures are helping to stem the tide. Law firms have been banned from offering incentives to file whiplash injury claims, and the cost of obtaining medical reports has now been capped at £180. Some medical practitioners had been charging up to £700. There is also talk of a special body being put in place to review all seemingly exaggerated claims.

What you need to substantiate car accident claims in Buckhaven for whiplash injury

As insurance companies tighten up on the processing of car accident claims in Buckhaven, (and indeed claims anywhere in the country), for whiplash injury, genuine injury victims will need to be careful about the information they supply to accompany any compensation claim. As well, as medical proof being “a must”, photographic proof of any damage done to vehicles, and witness statements, will help to legitimise any claim.
