The Formation Of The District
The local government district of Broxtowe, in the guise by which it would be recognised today, officially came into being on the 1st April 1974 following the passage of the Local Government Act of 1972. That wide-ranging piece of parliamentary legislation created a raft of new administrative districts at local government level, normally from mergers of former entities.
This was indeed the case with Broxtowe, which was formed from a merger of the Beeston and Stapleford urban district, the Eastwood urban district and part of Basford Rural District.
The Population Of The District
