How to cope with serious stress.

Stress is a natural part of everyday life, and something which most people will have to deal with at some point or another in their week. Simple things like paying bills or meeting deadlines can cause stress, but more serious stress is often caused by very serious and unusual situations.

Those dealing with a traumatic event, such as the death of a loved one or a Brent car accident are likely to suffer from serious stress at some point, and this can lead to all kinds of emotional issues that can take years to get over. If you feel that you are suffering from serious stress, you should not sit back and wait for the feeling to improve, and should do something about it.

    • Don’t ignore the problem. Unless there is literally nothing you can do about a situation, you should never ignore it and hope it will go away. All this does is make the situation worse, and by the time you come to deal with it, it may well have become something even more unmanageable.
    • Get help. There are some situations which you have to deal with on your own, but these are rare. Even if no one can actually do anything, apart from listen to you, then just get help in the form of a conversation with someone who will listen. If you can get practical help, then do this as well.
    • Learn new coping mechanisms. If you are not coping then your coping mechanisms are not working. Try to come up with new ways to deal with the stress you are suffering from, steering clear of drugs or alcohol which generally make the problem worse.
