    Bike injuries

More and more cyclists are plucking up the courage to cycle on the road. When the sun has his hat on, there is no better way to to travel than by bike. Not only will you beat the queues, you will also clock up some much needed exercise and do your bit for the environment. You will also feel great when you reach your destination.

As with most fun things in life, there is often a drawback. When it comes to cycling, the risk of acquiring some nasty bike injuries is pretty high, due to the fact that there is very little in the form of protection when we have a scrape or tumble.

Cyclists often receive a bad rap from motorists, but they are usually the innocent victims in road traffic accidents. They become unnoticed by careless drivers who fail to give them enough room on the road, obstruct cycle lanes or forget to check and double check their mirrors when carrying out a manoeuvre.

When bike injuries are more than just a cut or bruise

This may explain why over 16,000 bike injuries are dealt with by solicitors up and down the country each year. Serious accidents can result in blackouts, paralysis, fractures, soft tissue damage, joint damage and post- traumatic stress disorder. For some, a cycling accident can cause serious repercussions in terms of their lifestyle.

Sometimes the victim is left with injuries which may require a prolonged absence from work. This inevitably results in a reduced income. Some injuries may require costly private treatment to aid a swift recovery. Some injuries are so bad that there are ongoing repercussions for the rest of the victims life, leaving them unable to live as they did prior to the accident.
