    Barnet accident claim

    Barnet accident claim

Barnet, which actually is officially known as either High Barnet or Chipping Barnet, is a suburban area within the wider London Borough of Barnet. The area can be found approximately 10 miles (16 km) north north-west of Charing Cross but has only been a part of Greater London since 1965, having previously been found in the ceremonial county of Hertfordshire.

    A potted history Of Barnet

The suburban area of Barnet initially grew up around a 12th century settlement which was established within a clearing in what was a densely forested area in ancient times. This explains the settlement’s name which comes from the Old English word bærnet meaning ‘the land cleared by burning’.

The area has long been associated with its historic horse fair, which dates back to 1588 when Queen Elizabeth I granted a charter to the Lord of the Manor of Barnet to hold a twice-yearly fair. It is this fair, in fact, that leads to the rhyming slang use of the name Barnet (being short for Barnet fair) to refer to somebody’s hair.

    The population of Barnet

The modern day area of Barnet is thought to be home to a fairly significantly sized permanent resident population, although not as high a population as some areas of Greater London closer to the inner city.

This means that Barnet will not play host to as many accidents and injuries as those more densely populated areas of London, but being well within the bounds of Greater London it will still see more than many settlements around the country. It is for this reason, therefore, that residents of the area may find it beneficial to learn a little more about Barnet accident claim proceedings.
