The Scottish village of Glamis is best known as the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, who grew up in Glamis Castle. It has been the ancestral home of the Earls of Strathmore for more than 600 years. The village itself nestles on the foothills of the Angus Glens, which are located some 45 minute drive from Perth in Scotland, some five miles southwest of Forfar and four miles south of Kirriemuir.
Visitors can enjoy a tour of the castle and gardens, but there is also a restaurant catering for tourists’ needs. Apart from the annual tourist season that brings coach loads of visitors, Glamis Castle often welcomes film crews and wedding receptions as well as hosting corporate events on its grounds.
Glamis has seen human occupation since prehistoric times and another important local landmark, the Glamis Manse Stone, predates Clamis Castle by several centuries, having its origins in Pictish heritage. The Picts were also responsible for erecting and carving the Hunter Hill and the Eassie Stone, the latter can be found in the neighbouring village of Eassie.
The National Trust is responsible for the maintenance and day-to-day running of the Angus Fold Museum, a popular tourist venue that shows local heritage in every day tableaux such as an old-fashioned laundry room, a school room and a minister’s living room. If one of the ancient agricultural tools or historic cooking utensils that are displayed in the museum fell off the wall and hit a visitor, that visitor could claim compensation from the National Trust.
An accident solicitor in Glamis may not be at hand, given the small size of the village, but unless you ask around, you won’t know for sure who can help you to get justice and compensation.
