    Accident lawyer in Milford Haven

Milford Haven is a town in Pembrokeshire which has one of the deepest natural harbours in the world, so given that fact, it has a long maritime history. The Viking chieftain Hubba took advantage of the natural harbour and used it in 854 to moor his fleet there in winter. Since that time it has been the port from which Richard II attacked Ireland in 1399, and it was used for the same purpose by Oliver Cromwell in 1649.

It wasn’t until 1790 that a town was planned in the area. Sir William Hamilton then owned the land on which the town of Milford Haven was built, although it was Charles Francis Greville who applied for the Act of Parliament to enable the landowner to carry out construction work. There are some very elegant Georgian houses in Milford Haven dating from this time, some on Hamilton Terrace, named after the landowner. In the 18th century it was the stopping place for the Nantucket whalers, then when the whaling industry fell into decline, it became home to a large fishing fleet. Today, most of the harbour area is taken up by the marina, although it still retains some commercial interests.

Do you require an accident lawyer in Milford Haven?

Dockyards can be very dangerous places to work at and this was brought clearly into focus in March 2014 when the Royal Navy accidentally fired a torpedo into a storage container in Plymouth at the Devonport Naval Base. Luckily, the torpedo was not armed. The year before, three dockyard workers received a dose of radiation while doing maintenance work on a submarine at the same dockyard. Although these are extreme accidents and of course, rare, they do serve to illustrate the dangers involved in working at dockyards.
