The village of Holmes Chapel is located in the county of Cheshire in the North West of England, approximately 34 km south of Manchester and 13 km north of Crewe and falls within an area known as the Cheshire Plain. It is by and large a commuter village thanks to its easy railway connections with Liverpool, Manchester and Crewe and its proximity to Junction 18 on the M6. As a result, the village has become an affluent area.
The surrounding area boasts a lovely countryside with the Swettenham Meadows Nature Reserve being just 4 km distance from the village. The River Dane traverses the village at its northern end, making this a pleasant out-of-city but not quite rural place to live in.
Holmes Chapel has all the usual amenities of public houses, shopping centre with supermarket, bakery, chemist, pizzeria and other food outlets and cafes, estate agents and a library. A 14th century parish church stands at the centre of the village. The village also boasts a number of clubs and societies, such as the Victoria Club, two private Health Clubs and the Holmes Chapel Music Society.
Holmes Chapel developed thanks to its proximity to a drovers’ and later coaching route, as farming communities in the area had trade links with the surrounding towns. The town of Stoke on Trent is less than 30 km distance from the village. Several coaching inns were set up to cater for travellers on the main route from London to Lancashire.
