Have you been perusing the web in search of accident experts in New Lanark? New Lanark is a village found on the course of the River Clyde, which is situated approximately one and a half miles from Lanark in the county of South Lanarkshire.

    The History Of New Lanark

The village was founded in 1786 by mill owner David Dale who wished to provide housing for the workers in his nearby cotton mills. For a brief period in time, Dale enjoyed a partnership with renowned English inventor and industrialist Richard Arkwright, and it was during this time that he built the mills and the surrounding village in order to take advantage of the water power provided by the only waterfalls on the River Clyde.

It was another partnership, one which included Dale’s son-in-law Robert Owen, which took New Lanark to new heights in terms of both economic success and the treatment of workers, and it was for this reason that it became an important milestone in urban planning. The mills had a surprisingly long life, operating right up until 1968 but by 1974 it became a very real possibility that the village might fall into terminal decline. It was for this reason that in this year the New Lanark Conservation Trust (NLCT) was founded to safeguard the area and prevent its demolition. Due to the work of the NLCT, many of the buildings in the village are now protected and the whole village’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site has made it a popular tourist destination.

    Modern Day New Lanark

Now that the village is no longer an industrial centre it has, as was mentioned above, become a noted tourist destination. But in spite of the high number of visitors, New Lanark does actually have a small population of only around 200 people. The village does buck one major trend of such small settlements however in that the high visitor numbers mean that it is still comparatively common for accidents and injuries to occur in the village. What this means, in turn, is that there are regular compensation claims for personal injury solicitors in New Lanark.
