An accident can happen at any time and in place (Braintree being no exception). If the worse should happen and it wasn’t your fault, you can be sure that Accident Advice Helpline will support 100% with your claim for compensation.

Have you had a nasty Braintree accident?

To look at some of the less serious options for a moment. A sign outside a local pub was recently seen to read: “Have you been injured in an accident at work? No? Then you’re clearly not drinking enough at lunch time, step inside and let’s put that right.

Elsewhere there are all sorts of stories about people who have made claims which are perhaps a little on the optimistic side. Take the example of a woman in America who sued Macdonalds after she burned her lip on some coffee. She argued, successfully, that they should have warned her it was hot.

Other claims are darn right ingenious such as the (possibly) true story of a man who insured a box of cigars against a number of things including fire. He smoked them one by one before lodging a claim against his insurance company for a series of small fires. Although the judge agreed that the claim was frivolous he did agree that the insurance company had, for some unknown reason, agreed to insure the cigars against fire – and so found in the defendant’s favour.

The insurance company, though, is said to have struck back by having him arrested for arson and citing his own insurance claim as evidence.

    Making a real claim

In the real world lodging a claim for compensation however, can be a serious business and it needs to be done in the correct fashion. The courts will only consider your claim if you’re able to show that the accident was the fault of the defendant and that it has had a measurable impact on your life.

In providing evidence the authorities are becoming much stricter and moves are in the pipeline to make sure that any evidence you might have to provide is absolutely watertight – not only on the issue of blame, but also the extent of your injuries.
