"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

    Wrongful arrest accident counselling

If you have suffered an accident as the result of a wrongful arrest, you may require wrongful arrest accident counselling to help you deal with the long-term psychological and emotional damage that the experience has caused you.

A wrongful arrest can be a very traumatic experience in and of itself; an injury or accident that happens as the result of that arrest can make the situation all the more emotionally devastating. At Accident Advice Helpline, our personal injury specialist solicitors have many years of experience helping accident victims claim compensation for their injuries, including compensation to cover the cost of private counselling.

    Duty of the police

There are specific procedures which the police are required to follow when making any arrest; for example, they are not permitted to use unreasonable force, and they are legally bound to complete a detailed record of the circumstances surrounding the arrest. However, there are occasions when – in the heat of the moment – these rules are not followed. If, for example, you were arrested as part of a mass police operation during a peaceful protest, the police may not have followed all the procedures they are required to follow. If you are injured as a result of your wrongful arrest, you may be entitled to file a claim for compensation against the police.

    Long-term impact and recovery

Being arrested is a distressing and stressful experience for anybody. In most cases, you feel like you have no control over the situation, and when this is combined with the physical trauma of an injury, you could well be left with long-term adverse psychological effects which leave you unable to function socially, or fulfil your job role as effectively as before the arrest.

Psychological and emotional conditions such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) do not always have any obvious outward signs and, because of this, the people around you will not always be aware of the severity of the suffering that you are experiencing. A trained psychiatrist or counsellor can help you to understand the painful emotions you are experiencing, and guide you towards recovery.

At Accident Advice Helpline, we have been helping individuals just like you get the compensation they deserve since we were established in 2000. Our highly trained team of legal experts are here to help you get the compensation to which you are entitled on a no win, no fee*’ basis.

Whilst the NHS does offer counselling services, the waiting time before you see a counsellor can be quite long, and it is often difficult to know when you will be able to begin your treatment and for how long it will last. Private wrongful arrest accident counselling is usually quite expensive, but a successful compensation claim can help to pay for it – as well as other medical expenses and any loss of income you suffer as a result of the accident – meaning that you can get the help you need when you need it.

If you believe that you have sufficient grounds to make a claim for a wrongful arrest accident, give Accident Advice Helpline a call today on our free 24-hour phone line, and let us help you decide how to move forward. If you would like to get an idea of how much compensation you might be entitled to, visit our website and use our online 30-second claims calculator; simply input the details of your accident and the calculator will do the rest.
