A Lake District man has been awarded £300,000 in accident at work compensation after he was left with a permanent disability.
Wayne Miller, of Kendal, Cumbria, suffered lasting injuries in the accident, which occurred when his sleeve was caught by a piece of rotating machinery and pulled into its mechanism.
The accident occurred at the premises of Mr Miller’s employer, paper and textile specialists James Cropper plc, and left the claimant with the inability to grip anything in his left hand.
He was initially awarded a sum of £375,000 but this was reduced by 20% on account of Mr Miller’s admission of contributory negligence – he had removed some of the guards on the machine and had also operated it without assistance, in contravention of the company’s safety policy.
He has since found work with Electricity North West, although he will for ever be unable to undertake manual labour.
