"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

Is there a whiplash injury compensation scale?

Although whiplash describes an injury to the neck – often caused on impact in a road accident – it varies notably between people. Women are more prone to suffering from it than men, and even between individuals in the same accident the symptoms and severity can vary significantly. This is one of the reasons why the presence of a whiplash injury compensation scale can help ensure injured parties receive the most appropriate amount of compensation if they are injured.

But does such a scale exist? There are broad boundaries within which compensation claims will be calculated. However, you should note the word ‘broad’. While you can find examples of whiplash claims and payouts online, you should remember these will relate to individual cases, and not to your own case.

Should you ignore any whiplash injury compensation scale you might find?

This is up to you. However, we would suggest that if you do find one and read the contents, you take it as an outline of what may be paid out if your claim succeeded in receiving a payment. Whiplash can be anything from mild to chronic – the latter lasting for many months in some rare cases.

The impact your whiplash has on your daily life and the things you normally do will be assessed along with how bad it was to begin with. Hence why getting an official medical diagnosis can be very helpful.
