What is the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB)?

The CITB is the Construction Industry Training Board and it exists to help make the industry as safe as it can possibly be through the use and development of appropriate and in-depth training courses. It also offers CITB apprenticeships and a variety of information and other services.

There is the potential for all kinds of accidents to occur in the construction industry. This is due to the use of heavy equipment, working on large and complex sites and working at heights among other things. However the CITB does an outstanding job of developing and providing all manner of training courses that are recognised throughout the industry. These include courses on plant maintenance, health and safety, access and scaffolding and construction and specialist building.

Keeping the construction industry as safe as it can possibly be

The nature of the construction industry – indeed workplaces as a whole – means you can never entirely eradicate the odds that an accident could occur. There are many elements that individually may not lead to a potential hazard, but together could be entirely different.

The rate of accidents in the industry has reduced in the past and this is due in part to the efforts made by the CITB to improve safety and standards overall. However, there may still be situations where the potential for an accident could crop up.
