    What Causes Accidents at Work?

Each year, thousands of workers are injured at work. Often, these injuries are caused by an accident that is no fault of the employee. Furthermore, many accidents that happen around the workplace can be prevented and it is often negligence on behalf of somebody else that causes many accidents. All sorts of things can cause accidents at work, but there are several things that occur frequently in workplaces and cause some of the most common.

    Common accidents at work

Trips and falls are by far the most common cause of accidents at work. Often this is the result of something simple, such as a wet floor, a trip hazard being left in the way, or somebody falling from a broken ladder or other piece of equipment. Over 40 percent of all accidents at work are the result of trips, slips and fall and often they are the result of somebody else not taking care. Leaving something on the floor rather than putting it in its proper place is a common cause of trips, while employers failing to ensure all equipment, such as ladders, are maintained and checked regularly can also result in a preventable accidents. In addition, items falling off shelves and racks result in many injuries each year and again, these are quite preventable if items are only stacked and stored correctly.

Other types of common accidents at work include electric shocks, often resulting from people not following correct safety guidelines or lack of risk assessments in place. Back injuries are also exceptionally common accidents around the workplace. Often these sorts of injuries are the result of lifting items incorrectly, usually because they have had insufficient manual handling training. The other major cause of accidents at work is impatience and negligent use of machinery and vehicles.
