    Water sports accidents: Defective equipment

Jet skiing, surfing, body boarding and wind surfing. These are only a few water sports on offer that anyone can try. But, like any other sports, all of these come with their own risks, and often there are accidents which could have been prevented. One of the causes of accident claims, which could be easily prevented, is defective equipment.

How can water sport equipment be defective and lead to a claim for travel accident compensation?

Defective equipment can be anything from a damaged, thus compromised, surf board to something more severe such as a faulty jet ski. If you are hiring equipment for water sports, you don’t expect for the equipment to be defective. However, if it is and causes injury then you may be eligible to make an accident claim.

Many people decide to try water sports when they are on holiday as it is something new and exciting. But, if you have an accident due to a defective piece of equipment you may be able to make a claim for travel accident compensation.

What type of injuries could you get from defective equipment?

Travel injury claims can vary from something as minor as a few cuts and bruises from falling off a defective surf board, to something much more serious, especially when on electric items such as a jet ski. If the electrical components become faulty then this can be much more serious for you and the company, which would go much beyond a travel accident claim.

How can I prevent having to claim travel accident compensation?

It is difficult to completely prevent accidents on holiday from happening but there are certain things you can do. If you are hiring equipment, make sure you get it from a respected, legitimate company and, if it is electrical, don’t be afraid to ask when the components were last tested. But, if you have your own equipment make sure you keep up to date with the maintenance, and make sure any damage is spotted and if possible repaired to spare yourself a travel accident claim.
