Have you ever fallen over? Most of us end up doing this at one time or another in our lives, even when we are adults. There’s also the possibility of falling from a height, which could occur with a small drop involved or a much farther distance. Either way, you should know what the common fall injury symptoms are. If you do, you will more easily be able to identify whether or not you have any real injuries.
We should point out that while some people get away with any injuries from a fall, others are not so lucky. Accident Advice Helpline speaks to people every year who have ended up with sprains, strains, broken bones and other injuries – including crush injuries – from a fall of some kind.
Common fall injury symptoms – bruising, pain and swelling
These are three things you should definitely be looking out for. You might spot bruising that begins almost straight away, although it typically takes a little while to start to become apparent. Swelling is the most likely thing to happen, and it can happen almost immediately following a fall in the particular parts of the body affected. It might indicate a broken bone or a sprain, where a tendon, ligament or muscle has been wrenched and stretched beyond its normal range of motion.
If you feel pain in any part of your body following a fall – particularly a fall from height – it is always wise to get checked out. This could mean you have an injury, even one you cannot easily see. This is particularly the case with crush injuries, which may potentially occur after a fall from height.
