"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

Have you undergone a dislocated shoulder operation?

A dislocated shoulder operation is rare, but there are cases where the injury suffered is severe enough to require surgery. This may be done when the bones have been damaged when the shoulder was dislocated, or if there is damage to the ligaments or tendons. An operation will only be performed if the injury was bad enough to require surgery for the patient to heal properly and as fully as possible.

The other situation in which surgery may potentially be required is if your job involves a lot of physical effort. If you use your arms and shoulders a lot, you may need to have surgery to ensure you are not at an increased risk of suffering more dislocations in the future. This injury usually means the chances of another dislocation would be higher than they would have been initially.

Recovering from a dislocated shoulder operation

Make sure you follow all the advice given to you if you have had a dislocated shoulder operation. It will take several weeks to recover and you may find there are lots of things you cannot do during this time. You might also find you cannot work, and if you are self-employed that could mean a loss of income for a while.

You can imagine how difficult it is to cope with this situation. If you think about the accident you had, you should consider if someone else did something that caused your accident. Maybe they neglected to do something and that’s why you were injured and required surgery.

    Coping with the consequences

If you could claim anything in compensation, it might help you get back on your feet again. This will make life easier for you and ensure you can move ahead with your life. Yet finding out whether you could claim or not can be a challenge – unless you know who to call.
