Treating a facial injury

There are a number of methods for treating a facial injury, all of which will depend on how serious the injury is. Accident Advice Helpline understand how a facial injury can affect you and we can help you claim the compensation you deserve, as long as you were not at fault for the accident.

Have your injury treated

A medical practitioner will assess your injury and will make sure that you get the right treatment for it. One concern will be whether you have suffered a head injury at the same time.

Cuts and bruises may need little or no treatment at all. An ice pack can help reduce any swelling and painkillers can help with any pain. If you have a deep cut, you may need stitches.

Dislocated jaws will need to be reset and this is usually done as soon as possible. You may still feel pain and discomfort for a while afterwards. A broken jaw could mean surgery or you may have to have your jaw immobilised for it to heal.

If you suffer an injury to a tooth, visit a dentist as soon as possible. Even if you are in no pain, if the damage has exposed a nerve, it could lead to an infection and possible extraction of the tooth.
