Top 3 skipping injuries

Need to find out more about skipping injuries? There are many benefits attached to jumping rope or skipping, but the activity can also cause injuries. However, virtually all sporting activities do have risks attached, so it’s important not to let the risk of injury put you off if you are eager to start becoming more active.

How can you be hurt whilst jumping rope?

Three of the most common skipping injuries you might sustain are shin splints, plantar fasciitis and joint pain. Shin splints involve pain in the shins or at the front of the lower legs and they are usually brought on by exercise. They are also associated with activities like running, tennis and basketball. Though shin splints aren’t normally serious, they can put you out of action for some time. Pain can start shortly after exercise and can start off dull before becoming sharp and severe.

Plantar fasciitis involves the band of tissue connecting the heel bone with the rest of the foot becoming thickened and damaged. The damage can make itself known suddenly or gradually.

Plantar fasciitis is where the thick band of tissue that connects the heel bone with the rest of the foot (the plantar fascia) becomes damaged and thickened. People who spend a long time standing or wear flat-soled shoes are at particular risk of experiencing it, as are those deemed to be overweight or obese. Those who jump rope may experience pain in one or several joints.
