While riding a Segway can be great fun, this activity doesn’t come without risk. Here are some of the dangers of Segways.

Common Segway injuries

Segways rose to fame a few years ago, and now lots of people enjoy seeing the sights and embracing the great outdoors on board a Segway. You can buy vouchers as gifts or treat yourself to a Segway experience, and there are lots of outdoor activity centres where you can ride challenging routes, try out different types of terrain and try and work up a bit of speed. Using a Segway is usually very safe, but there are some dangers of Segways. The most common types of Segway injury include:

  • Bruising
  • Cuts and grazes
  • Fractures

Rarely, Segway accidents can be very serious, and injuries that may occur include spinal and head injuries, lacerations and facial injuries.

Preventing Segway accidents

When you ride a Segway, you should be aware of the risks involved, and use suitable safety equipment. If you’re taking part in an organised activity, you should be provided with the relevant equipment. Stick to designated paths and routes, and maintain a steady speed. Go slowly, to begin with, as it may take you a while to get used to the Segway. Ask for assistance if you’re having any problems.
