17-year-old Eilish Herron had passed her driving test a few weeks ago and had just started driving on her own. But the young netball star – who was named Young Sports Person of the Year in Renfrewshire last year – was killed in a collision on a forecourt whilst filling her car with petrol.
Eilish was knocked over at the Asda garage in Linwood, Renfrewshire at 2.30pm on 10th September when a Ford Focus struck her. She was believed to be filling up her Renault Clio with fuel when she was hit. The emergency services attended but Eilish had died at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Paisley Netball Club stated that Eilish was a star player and her team were devastated by her death. She said “We can’t take it in. She was the most bubbly, helpful, attractive and enthusiastic girl. Nothing was too much trouble for her.”
She went on to say that “She was a wonderful ambassador for the sport. She has so many friends, who will be devastated.” And “Her family should be very proud that she was such an amazing young woman.”
The male driver of the Ford Focus was unhurt and police inquiries are continuing right now.
