Survivor guide: Visiting Victoria Falls

Located immediately adjacent to a town of the same name, Victoria Falls is close to Botswana, and Livingstone is just across the Zambian border. Locally known as ‘Mosikalamosikala’ (‘The Smoke That Thunders’), Victoria Falls is one of the world’s most amazing sights and offers visitors not only spectacular views, but also an array of adrenalin-pumping water, air and land based activities.

Staying safe at Victoria Falls

Following periods of instability, tourists are now kept reasonably safe by the so-called ‘tourist police’ and resort guards. Naturally, it is vital to follow their advice or instructions with respect to safe paths to follow, crowds of touts to avoid, and so on. When indulging in one or more of the many exciting activities on offer, it is equally important to carefully follow relevant instructions and safety advice in order to prevent accidental personal injuries.

Travel accident compensation

In spite of all the precautions, accidents can and will happen. Should you be injured while enjoying your time at Victoria Falls, you may qualify to claim for accidental injury compensation. The accident causing your injury must be the fault of someone other than yourself, and claims must be initiated within three years of the incident.

Passenger injury compensation

In a similar fashion, injuries incurred by you in accidents while being a passenger aboard a plane, boat, train, coach, or any other vehicle may also entitle you to claim for injury compensation. As a passenger, it is usually not too difficult to prove that the incident was down to someone else’s fault. Again, claims need to be brought forward within a maximum of three years following the injury.

Slips, trips, and falls

Slippery flooring and carelessly left packages, luggage and other hazardous obstacles in hotels, airport lounges, restaurants or stores all too easily cause injury by slipping, falling, or tripping. If you were injured in this manner within the past 36 months, you may be eligible to claim for personal injury compensation.
