Survivor guide: The supermarket at Easter

Slips, trips and falls are common in supermarkets at the best of times, but during busy periods, such as Christmas and Easter, the risk of slipping in a supermarket may be higher. If you’ve had an accident in a public place and it wasn’t your fault, you may be able to make a claim for compensation.

Potential slip, trip and fall hazards in the supermarket at Easter time

Easter is a time of joy and celebration, but it can also be hectic and hazardous, especially if you’re planning a last-ditch trip to the supermarkets to stock up on chocolate eggs. One of the main reasons the supermarket may be more dangerous at Easter time is the volume of people. Easter is a popular time to shop because people like to buy each other Easter eggs, but it is also very busy because there are bank holidays, which means that the shops are open for shorter periods of time and some may even close, causing people to panic shop in advance.

Another potential hazard at Easter time is boxes; reaching for an Easter egg on the top shelf can easily result in a pile-up of boxes and chocolate eggs littered all over the aisle, which will almost certainly result in at least one person tripping.

Other risks in the supermarket include slipping on a wet floor following a spillage in the milk, wine or cordial aisle, and being hit by a falling object from a shelf above eye-level.
