Staying safe at the work Christmas party

It’s that time of year again. Christmas is round the corner and with it comes an office Christmas party. These can be a lot of fun, filled with music, laughter, and a lot of alcohol. Here are our top tips for staying safe at the office party and avoiding an accident at work.

Watch your drink at all times to avoid a work accident claim at your Christmas party

You may be with your work colleagues but the likelihood is that you won’t know everyone, or at least very well, at the party. This is why you need to be aware of things around you, and especially of your drink. If you do start feeling strange always tell someone, or simply go home, to prevent any work accident injuries or worse.

Don’t drink too much at the Christmas party

I know this is what office parties are all about, but if you drink too much alcohol then not only will you probably make a fool of yourself in front of those in management, but an accident at work is more likely to occur whether this a slip, trip or fall or other accident. If you feel you have started going overboard with the drinking then step back a bit and have a soft drink. Pace yourself and you will find the evening a lot more enjoyable.

    Don’t leave alone

At the end of the night the best thing to do is to arrange for a group of you to all leave together as there is always safety in numbers. But, if you have to leave alone then try and take a taxi or at least walk down well-lit, busy roads. This is to keep you safe and prevent any nasty injury claims.

But, if you do have an accident at work, or somewhere else, that wasn’t your fault, you may be able to make a claim. Speak to Accident Advice Helpline to see how much you could claim by going online and taking the compensation calculator test, or by speaking to one of the many operatives on the advice line which is answered 24/7 on 0800 689 0500.
