    What is the Safe Network?

The Safe Network was created as part of the government’s Staying Safe Action Plan and is managed by Children England and the NSPCC. The Safe Network provides information related to activities that take place outside the home, such as after-school clubs. It exists because not all of the groups and people who work with children do all they can to keep them safe. Whilst there is a lot of good practice when it comes to keeping children safe, more can be done.

The Safe Network is working towards creating safeguarding standards, working with the Child Protection in Sport Unit and the Disclosure and Barring Service. They aim to share good practice so young people and parents know how to choose safe activities outside the home.

    They also:

    • Provide safeguarding advice through their website and other resources
    • Work with delivery partners to ensure relevant standards are accessible for all community and voluntary organisations who work with children
    • Map safeguarding standards already in existence and work in conjunction with those responsible for developing and maintaining them

If your child has been injured whilst at an after-school club or another organised activity outside the home, you may be able to claim compensation if negligence has occurred.

    Has your child been injured?

Whilst accidents at playgroups and organised activities outside the home are thankfully fairly rare, they do have the potential to happen. Here are just a few examples of the types of accident which could occur:

    • Slip or trip
    • Fall from height
    • Injured by faulty play equipment
    • Injuries caused when left unsupervised
    • Food poisoning

You may be able to claim compensation if your child has been injured and staff have been negligent.
