    Rowing accident claim

Making a rowing accident claim is a lot easier than most people think, and compensation can make a big difference when you are recovering from an injury. At Accident Advice Helpline we frequently deal with sporting accident claims of all kinds. We also provide free, no-obligation advice to people who call us to ask if they can make such claims. If you think you might be in that situation, we would be happy to talk things through with you and work out what your options are. If you have a legally valid case, we can also estimate how much money it could be worth to you.

    Typical rowing accidents

There are several types of accidents than can occur when rowing. Along with the dramatic hazards that can be presented by dangerous water conditions (which sometimes develop unexpectedly), there can be impact injuries caused when getting in or out of the boat or as a result of being struck by an oar. The most common injury type, however, is damage to the muscles in the arms and back caused by poor technique or too much strain. If this is just due to your own foolhardiness, there is nothing the law can do to help you, but if poor training contributed to the problem or if someone bullied you into continuing to row after you realised something was wrong and said you wanted to stop, you may well be able to make a compensation claim.

    What can compensation do?

Compensation is often thought of simply as a lump sum people receive to make them feel better. In fact, it is a bit more complicated than that. Compensation awards are calculated based on the needs of the injured party, so if, for instance, you have been hurt so badly that you need to take time off work, it could include money to compensate for your lost earnings. It can pay for any special equipment you may need to manage day-to-day tasks or move around. It can also pay for counselling you may need, or for medical treatment not available on the NHS. The idea of compensation is to help you get back to living your normal life as fast as possible, or, if that is not possible, to ensure you have a reasonable quality of life in your changed situation. With any luck, you will soon feel able to return to the sport you love.
