Road safety action group aims to reduce accidents in Hanworth

By David Brown on December 6, 2014

A road safety accident group set up by the community in Hanworth Park plans to improve road safety in the area, which is an accident hotspot. The road safety action group plans to implement possible measures to calm traffic, which could include better road signs, speed cameras and a 20mph speed limit. The area between Fernside Avenue, Castle Way and St George’s Church sees around a dozen accidents every year, with one young man left disabled after suffering brain injuries in a road traffic accident in the area.

It is hoped that with the new traffic calming measures in place, the number of accidents will drop. Reducing speed in the area will also reduce the potential for accidents. A meeting of the group received support from Hanworth Park Councillors, Bishnu Gurung and Hanif Khan. Mr Khan commented, “There are some important actions that need to be investigated and data collected, we will be working closely with the local residents. Reducing the speed will reduce the potential of accidents and injuries. It will increase the perception of road safety. Something will need to be done, a speed camera may not be the answer but a sophisticated and cost effective traffic calming solution could be introduced.”

Have you been injured in a road traffic accident?

There are many factors which could cause a collision, from a distracted driver using their mobile phone to wintry weather conditions or even a faulty vehicle. If you have been involved in a collision with another driver, either as the driver of a vehicle, a cyclist or even a pedestrian, it is important to establish who is to blame for the accident. If the other driver was driving without due care and attention and you have been injured as a result, you may be able to make a claim for compensation.
