Are you receiving sprained ankle care at the moment?

Good sprained ankle care is vital if you suffer this injury, because it can influence how well your ankle recovers. Sometimes, you’ll know your sprain is only mild, and you may still be able to bear weight on your ankle, albeit only mildly. However, a more serious sprain will mean you cannot bear weight on it, and in this case, you should seek medical advice. It could be you have suffered a fracture rather than a sprain, since a bad sprain presents in much the same way.

If you sprained your ankle recently, you might want to consider how this happened. Did you trip over an obstacle or lose your footing on a slippery surface that had no warning signs present? Did you experience a fall and land on your feet, turning your ankle and spraining it as you did so?

What might sprained ankle care involve?

A sprained ankle can often be treated with the usual RICE advice. This means you should rest it, ice it, use compression to reduce the swelling and support the ankle, and elevate it to achieve the same effect. However, in some cases, you should seek medical advice to get a proper diagnosis. Very few people ever need surgery following a sprained ankle, but receiving appropriate care at an early stage will be very useful indeed.

For some, this might mean wearing a supportive and rigid boot, as well as using crutches for at least a few days. More serious sprains may require you to keep your weight off your ankle for longer – perhaps a week or two, or more.

Can you make a claim for your ankle sprain?

This is possible if you can prove someone else was negligent in creating the situation that led to your sprain. For example, was a change in floor level not marked with hazard tape? Did you trip or slip and sprain your ankle that way?
