"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

    Power cut injury counselling

It’s always easier to live with the consequences of an accident if you can convince yourself it won’t happen again, but there are some things in life you can’t control – like your electricity supply – so if you’re injured as a result of it suddenly cutting out you may be in need of power cut injury counselling. This specialist service is designed to help you deal with the problems caused by your accident and learn to live with that awareness of ongoing risk without continuing to feel stressed about it.

    Getting counselling

NHS counselling waiting lists tend to be lengthy and it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to find specialist power cut injury counselling that way, but it can be found within the private sector. At Accident Advice Helpline we’ve succeeded in getting funding for counselling for many of our clients as part of compensation settlements. Such counselling is intended to help people to get back to living life, as much as is possible, in the same way they did before their accidents, and that includes making sure they don’t have lingering mental health problems. If your doctor says that you need counselling, and if your accident happened less than three years ago, we will be happy to help you recover the costs through your claim.

    How it works

Counselling like this can take a variety of approaches (so if you just don’t click with one counsellor it’s worth trying another) but it’s fundamentally about giving you the skills to cope with anxiety. We’re all aware, when we think about it, that there are risks in many day-to-day aspects of life but it’s rare for us to worry about them, as doing so wouldn’t really be very useful. A skilled counsellor can help to put the risk of power cut-related problems back into perspective. They can also help you to develop confidence in your ability to cope if something does go wrong.

If you have suffered injuries that are likely to limit how you can live your life for a long time a counsellor can help you adjust emotionally so that you are better able to cope with this.
