A Worcester man who took up DJ-ing after a near-fatal work accident has qualified for the finals of a global competition.
Former air conditioning engineer Tim Foster, 34, was horribly injured when a gas cannister weighing 70 kg fell on his head while he was working in Stratford, East London, in August 2007.
He suffered a fractured skull and has no memory of the accident at all. He also developed post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his ordeal. However, after reading some DJ magazines whetted his appetite, he soon took the dramatic step of selling his house to fund the purchase of equipment and won a heat this year to send him through to the competition in Birmingham.
It is not clear if Mr Foster, who uses the stage name Phatboy Tim, was eligible to make a work accident claim for his injuries.
