New road safety centre due to open in Weymouth, Dorset

By David Brown on July 18, 2014

There are many dangers on the roads today and in Dorset more than 1,200 people were injured last year alone in a variety of road accidents. Of this number, 326 people received serious injuries and 28 lost their lives.

As a result Weymouth is about to get the UK’s very first road safety centre. This is an initiative created by two charities that have joined together to provide Safewise. The initiative is the brainchild of the Community Safety Centre and also LV Streetwise. The new road safety centre will be situated in Radipole Lane. The aim is to provide a life-size outdoor layout featuring a level crossing, roads, a train station and much more besides. These will all be used to ensure people can see where hazards exist on the roads and pavements and other areas nearby. The realism at the centre and the life-sized props will help ensure people become more aware of how dangerous certain areas and behaviours are. The project at the centre has been funded in its initial stages by the Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner, along with the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service.

Are you considering a compensation claim after suffering a road accident?

Someone is to blame for nearly every road accident that occurs on the roads. Even if your own driving skills are exceptionally good and you make sure you never drive while using a phone or taking part in any other activity, you never know what other people might do.

If you are involved in an accident and you have proof the other driver or party involved was negligent and caused it to take place, you may be able to launch a claim for compensation as a result of the accident.
