"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

How much compensation do you deserve?

The amount paid out for a personal injury claim is dependent on the location on the body and severity of the injury that a person has suffered.

A common claim is for whiplash and the amount paid to the victim depends on the seriousness of the injury. For example, for whiplash that is expected to fully heal between the time of 2 weeks and a year, the victim can expect to receive from approximately £850 to £2,850. If the injury is expected to heal within two years, the amount that can be awarded is from £2,850 to £5,150. For more serious neck injuries that will cause pain and discomfort for several years, the amount a personal injury claimant can receive could be from around £5,150 to £16,400. Very serious neck injuries include the possibility of paralysis; for these devastating circumstances a person can file a claim for compensation that could award around £97,000.

    Back injuries

Another reason for people filing a compensation claim is for back injuries. For a minor back injury that is expected to heal within 2 years without the need for surgery, a person will receive approximately £5,150. If the injury is more serious and is expected to heal within 5 years then the amount a claimant can expect is from £5,150 to £8,250. For more severe back injuries such as a crush fracture of the bones, slipping forward of the bones in the spine, or an injury that affects the long-term mobility of a person, with pain or discomfort, the compensation a person may receive is between £18,250 and £25,500.

    Head injuries

For a minor injury to the head, which includes cuts, bruises, and bangs to the head, the amount a person can expect from their claim is dependent on a few factors. The factors that affect the amount paid out are the severity of the injury, the amount of time it takes for the wound to heal, whether it is possible for a full recovery to be made from the injury and whether there have been headaches as a result of the injury. Depending on the above factors, the amount that could be awarded is from £1,450 to £8,400.
