"If you've been injured through no fault of your own you could be entitled to compensation. If you're unsure if you could claim, I recommend you call Accident Advice Helpline."

    What is Mesothelioma?

The tragic thing about mesothelioma is that its cause is (in essence at least) nobody’s fault. A cancer that develops in the lining of the lung, it is contracted through exposure to asbestos fibres and has been affecting manual labourers who work with asbestos and those who live and work in buildings built with asbestos for years now.

If you or a loved one has been stricken with mesothelioma, you should be able to file a personal injury claim to help ease your suffering and Accident Advice Helpline are experts in the field.

Asbestos is a building material that was used extensively in 1950’s. It is (for all its faults) a remarkable insulator (keeping out the cold and keeping in the heat) and protects remarkably well against corrosion. Common uses of asbestos included pipe insulation, floor tile lining and roof sheeting and it was also used as a spray coating due to its protective qualities.

Workers who have used asbestos will include mechanics, plumbers, joiners and electricians, as well as general builders and engineers. In fact, anyone working in the building trade will have more than likely come into contact with the substance.

As ubiquitous and useful as it is though, unfortunately the useful qualities of asbestos were underwritten in ensuing years when it was discovered that inhaling asbestos fibres could lead to a specific form of cancer known as ‘Mesothelioma‘.

The name of the cancer derives from the fact that it affects the ‘mesothelial cells‘. These are cells that line the outer areas of all our bodies’ internal organs. There is no cure to speak of and it is considered a terminal illness, but by filing a personal injury compensation claim with us, you’ll be able to not only make what remains of your time more comfortable but you’ll be able to provide for your family after you are gone.

There are solicitors who specialise in mesothelioma claims and we would put you in contact with just such an expert. These experts are not only top of their field but are trained to be compassionate and sensitive companions who will be able to make your compensation claim feel like less of a burden and more of a ‘release’.

    The symptoms of Mesothelioma

The symptoms of mesothelioma are similar to many other cancers, but if you have worked in the building trade in any capacity over the past 50 years and feel as if asbestos could have been used in areas where you worked, you should seek medical attention immediately.

The cancer itself takes time to develop, so if you haven’t been working in the trade for more than 10 years you probably have nothing to worry about. Anyone working between 15 to 40 years in areas where they might have been exposed though should look out for the following symptoms – Lower back pain, a perpetual cough, breathing difficulties, weight loss, sweating, nausea, abdomen swelling.

If you’ve been diagnosed with the disease as a result of your work environment, phone the AAH on our 24/7, no-commitment hotline. A compassionate expert advisor will be ready to take your call.
